Acuity Brands Lighting and the Jim H. McClung Lighting Center Present the Festival of Lights USA November 10th & November 11th in Conyers, Ga.

Festival of Lights USA, a celebration of the art and science of light, is sponsored by Acuity Brands Lighting (parent company of Lithonia Lighting) and its partner, Philips. The event is fashioned after a similar event held annually in Lyon, France, where streets and passageways are adorned with works of light and rivers and hills are set ablaze with the magic of lighting design.

The upcoming Festival of Lights USA is the fifth such event sponsored by Acuity Brands Lighting. Bringing together lighting professionals from all over the world to learn about lighting trends and applications, previous events were held at the company’s headquarters campus and culminated in a private showing of the designers’outdoor lighting displays on the last night.

This year, their works of art will appear for the first time on 12 buildings and public areas in Olde Town Conyers that will be miraculously transformed by light—all available for public viewing. “We decided to add a public component to the Festival of Lights to let the community at large join in our celebration of lighting and to showcase the innovative work of our participants to a broader audience,” said Jimalee Dakin, festival director and director of the Jim H. McClung Lighting Center at Acuity Brands Lighting in Conyers.

World-renowned architectural lighting designer Rogier van der Heide will be among the featured presenters at Festival of Lights. Van der Heide is an associate director and global leader with Arup Lighting, a worldwide architectural and natural lighting design service studio. Also included in the event is Michael Rohde, director of L-Plan, a lighting design practice in Berlin. Rohde is an independent lighting designer with vast experience in all areas of lighting. Acuity Brands Lighting and Philips believe in supporting such civic events that bring families together and continue to build and foster goodwill in the communities that the companies serve. “We are pleased that we are able to bring this event to metro Atlanta and share with residents the creative work that these world-renowned lighting designers have to offer, while supporting our local business establishments through such civic activities,” said John K. Morgan, president and chief executive officer of Acuity Brands Lighting. “It is about creating new opportunities to showcase lighting through the use of our brands, the art and science of light and our continued mission to support lighting education for tomorrow.”

All proceeds from Festival of Lights USA will benefit the International Association of Lighting Designers Trust Foundation. For more information about Festival of Lights USA, visit www.festivaloflightsusa.com.
